Contemporary Arts Museum had a Teen Fashion show (ages 13-19)
and each contestant was allowed a max of 5 designs but I just went ahead and did four. Anywho, oh the stories behind these clothes first off I did make everything from scratch for the EXCEPTION of the leather vest. Being that I didn't think my sewing machine couldn't manage fresh (fake) leather fabric, I decided to go thrift for a regular worn leather jacket that I could turn into a vest. Unfortunately because this Fashion show took place in the spring I had a hard time finding a decent leather jacket if any at all. SO I decided to buy this ridiculous 80s jacket because the front looked pretty good (since I was chopping off the sleeves anyway) and I liked how the leather looked as well. Man did that take some work though, there was SO much excessive fabric. I had to take in the sides, hem in the bottom of the jacket, recreate the arm holes since the original sleeve was at least six inches in length and other details. Then the Black dress was made bits and pieces the night before and semi completed literally two hours before the Fashion Show. I wasn't able to finish the hem completely so I had to hand sew it in the car and the rest with my life savor pins. It ended up being a little tight in the bust but Liz was such a trooper and it looked pretty good for being whipped up in the last 24 hours.
I know I could have done a lot better if it wasn't for my procrastination but hey it didn't end there. At the end of the Fashion Show they
were giving out awards (best nighttime outfit, eco friendly, etc.) and SURE enough I
won BEST OVERALL DESIGNER. I was pretty excited and had a serious ego boost (but then
again who wouldn't?) but anyways it was a great experience and i'd recommend it to anyone.
Anywho still going to continue sewing and have a few DIY projects to come and even soon
enough might start selling things online.
